ANNE WELLS: FOUNDER & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Anne Wells founded Unite the World with Africa Foundation, Inc. in November of 2014 to serve and empower some of the most impoverished people on our planet. She has been working in and out of Africa since she was 19 studying in Tanzania as a student of wildlife and human cultural management. Anne spent extensive time in Tanzania between 1991 and 1994 and returned in 2008 to start the social enterprise Unite the World with Africa LLC, under which she runs the Unite Tours service safari program. A global social entrepreneur, Anne has been recognized for her work by being named a “Local Defender” by the Robert F Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights. She also received an special recognition from Senator Richard Blumenthal for Unite's "extraordinary commitment to connecting Americans and Tanzanians in meaningful and impactful ways to alleviate human suffering." A seasoned marketing and communications professional, Wells has more than 30 years of experience working with corporations and not-for-profits. She is also a writer and editor and authored and published two non-fiction books that sold and distributed nearly 30,000 copies. Anne received her BA in Anthropology from Kenyon College in 1993. She attended the University of California at Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism and is currently enrolled in an online masters degree program for nonfiction writing at John’s Hopkins University. Anne is married to David Wells and together they have three daughters — ages 19, 21 and 23. She lives in Providence, Rhode Island.
ANTUJAELLY “ANTY” MARCHE: UNITE PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Anty is a Tanzanian woman living and working in the United States. Her life-long passion for helping needy women and children across the world fueled her work over the years with such organizations as OXFAM Tanzania, Catholic Relief Services Tanzania, USAID Tanzania, CIRI (Connecticut International Refugees and Immigrants), ITI (Interpreters and Translators Inc), University of Pennsylvania's SIREN Project, and many others. With Unite, Anty is working to grow and develop our Unite Scholars Program, the Unite Club Program, the Unite Food Program, the Warrior for Change Revolving Loan Program, and the Brave Widows program in Tanzania. Her expertise working with Americans and Africans from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds serves Unite in countless ways. Anty received her BS from Northeastern University and her Graduate Certificate in Cyber Security from Sacred Heart University in Connecticut. Anty is currently living between Atlanta, Georgia, and Tanzania.
JOAN MNZAVA: UNITE SCHOLARS PROGRAM MANAGER
Joan, 28, grew up in Dar es Salaam with her parents and younger brother. She graduated from the University of Iringa with a bachelors degree in Community Development. She has conducted months of field work with the international NGO Population Service International (PSI) and worked as a volunteer teacher in a nursery school and day care center. As the Unite Scholars Program Manager and lead mentor, Joan supports nearly 100 scholars in all areas of their personal and academic lives, and she is trained to teach them the soft skills they need to succeed in their professional and social lives. Joan has excellent communication and computer skills, and she is determined, creative and has a vision and passion for empowering disadvantaged youth to help them create a better and more just society. Joan lives in Dar es Salaam.
CLARA WILSON NGOWI: UNITE FOOD PROGRAM & UNITE HUMMINGBIRD PROGRAM MANAGER
Clara, 29, is an Environmental Scientist from the University of Dodoma who is wildly passionate about conservation, reforestation and volunteerism. She graduated top of her class from secondary school and while in university served as the Minister of Education, Constitution & Law; Chairperson of the Committee of Discipline and Gender; and Treasurer and Vice Chairperson of Tanzania Student’s Christian Fellowship. Clara is also an accomplished singer and musician with produced albums. Clara is the manager at UFP Enterprises (Unite Food Program) in Dar es Salaam and helps to lead the strategic planning, operations, and daily practices of the organization. As the manager of our Unite Hummingbird Environmental Program, Clara facilitates the planting of trees, organic gardens, and nurseries across Tanzania. In this role, she has restored more than 30 acres of degrades lands. “Persistence, commitment, courage, resilience, patience are the very core values that have helped me in all areas of my life, from academics and volunteerism to professionalism and mentoring, and are critical to all those who want to impact this world.”
IRENE PETER: UNITE FOOD PROGRAM FINANCE MANAGER
Irene holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, majoring in Accounting from St. Augustine University. After refining her skills as an accountant for more than five years at Cordura Limited, Irene joined forces as a business partner at IDSM Business Consultants, a thriving consulting firm owned by her husband, where she been an integral partner for over three years. Currently, Irene is excelling as the Finance Manager at UFP Enterprises in Dar es Salaam, “expertly directing all accounting and financial operations with acumen and dedication, driving growth, and efficiency in the organization." Irene lives in Dar es Salaam with her husband and two young sons.
HOSIANA THOMAS: UNITE FOOD PROGRAM, WARRIOR FOR CHANGE REVOLVING LOAN PROGRAM & BRAVE WIDOW PROGRAM
Hosiana, 26, was admitted to our Unite Scholars Program in 2018 and supported through College of Tengeru where she earned a cerficate in community development. She then went on to work with Kivulini Maternity and Fistula Hospital in Arusha. During COVID 19, Hosiana spearheaded a Unite campaign called Boma-2-Boma, teaching families in Maasailand about COVID 19 and basic health measures. Hosiana then joined the team at Unite Food Program where she continues to work in stock management. In 2023, Hosiana expanded her role with Unite to become the manager of the Warrior for Change Revolving Loan Program and the Brave Widow Program. Hosiana grew up in the Arusha district of northern Tanzania has one daughter, now 6 years old. She currently resides in Dar es Salaam.
