A few months ago, Acora Nancy Odonga, a member of Uganda’s Parliament and a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (a global organization of national parliaments working to promote peace, democracy, and sustainable development), expressed interest in our Unite Club program and soft skills training curriculum. In response to her inquiry, we are now piloting our Unite Club Program, which is currently reaching hundreds of students across Tanzania, at the Padibe and Palabek Senior Secondary Schools in the Lamor district of northern Uganda bordering Sudan. This is a rural area that has been highly affected by violence and war. Many students from the Palabek Refugee Settlement Camp study at Palabek Secondary, and all of the students are in great need of more resources and academic and social support. Each school has about 300 students each and more than 100 have signed up to participate in Unite’s club program.
Mrs. Odanda holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a postgraduate degree in monitoring and evaluation. She has traveled the world as a member of the Ugandan parliament and feels strongly about the critical importance of teaching soft skills to the youth to raise adults who are confident, resilient, and able to succeed in a global workplace.
The Unite Club Curriculum includes lessons in Emotional Intelligence, Environmental Stewardship, Self Awareness, Time Management, Personal Branding, Networking, Interviewing, Presentation skills, Communication skills, Active Listening, Feedback vs Criticism, Effective Use of Social Media, and Managing Stress & Anxiety. The Club also has access to more than 100 Unite Passion Project videos in which experts and professionals from around the world share about their career journeys.
“I want to say thank you to Unite the World With Africa Foundation for your kind gesture of supporting Padibe SS and Palabek SS with Unite’s soft skills & leadership curriculum to enhance the learning and performance of the students in the Lamwo District. On behalf of these students and all the stakeholders, I want to say that this partnership should go beyond these clubs so that our poor children can achieve their dreams and change the world into a better place. Thus I pledge my total commitment to the success of this noble course. I say all this for God and my Country.”
