In honor of Mother’s Day 2020, the social enterprise Tembo NYC is supporting Unite’s work to empower impoverished, at-risk women around the world and protect vulnerable populations from Covid-19.
THEIR OFFER: For every Tembo face mask ordered off their website before Mother's Day, May 10th, 2020, Tembo will donate back to Unite's “Brave Widows” sewing cooperative in Tanzania funds to make face masks that we will then donate to local at-risk populations (e.g. to hospitals and to people living with HIV/AIDS).

Unite and Tembo NYC are both working to empower impoverished women by supporting them to launch and grow small businesses. In Tanzania, where widows are often stigmatized, marginalized and victimized, Unite provides them with loans, grants, mentorship and business opportunities to help them achieve independence and live with dignity. Tembo NYC’s mission is to “support women’s cooperatives at home and abroad in a way that is sustainable and good for the earth.” Tembo’s colorful face masks are made by immigrant women working with The Artisan Sewing Cooperative in Queens New York and fashioned out of African waxed fabrics sourced through The Netherlands.
